A special reprise of the great 1970 Montrose
A grand tradition of wine-making has brought unique praise to Château Montrose as "the Latour of St.-Estèphe" and the "first growth" of a commune that in fact has no first growths. But that's the pride of place old-style Montrose has earned in the hearts of Bordeaux lovers. We've acquired a treasured wine that goes far toward explaining such boundless enthusiasm: the still-glorious Montrose from the 1970 vintage.
As many of our customers have discovered from previous offerings, the wines of the 1970 Bordeaux vintage have shown extraordinary staying power. Now in its fourth decade, the '70 Montrose is prime for drinking; and these beautiful bottles come from excellent provenance, having been kept in ideal cellar conditions from the time of their release.
This is classic Montrose, made before a brief commercial fling when the percentage of merlot was increased to soften the blend. Here, we're talking 70 percent cabernet-sauvignon with just enough
balancing support from both merlot and cabernet-franc. It's the combination of durability and intensity that first drew comparison between Montrose and that first growth to the south, Latour. We're confident you will agree the '70 Montrose is a "premier" treat.
We can offer the 1970 Montrose for $195 per bottle. Obviously, our supply is quite limited, and the earliest Internet customers to inquire will be the happy ones.
